CRISTINA FERRARA
My jewels are pieces of a journey. In every jewel there is a bit of my story,
made of contamination between art, architecture and photography. I graduated in architecture, and specialized in Rome in landscape photography, I conducted research on the city and the contemporary landscape, and then in 2010 return to Sicily, an infinite source of inspiration. Little by little, photography has started to meet metals and in 2015, my brand TILE Gioielli was born.
As an architect, for passion and for work, my eyes are constantly attracted
by the details: the majolica coverings of the ancient Sicilian noble palaces, the marbles, mixes of baroque churches, the small and colorful flowers of spontaneous vegetation; they capture me and become subjects of my photographs.
And it is from this photographic research that the MADUNA collection was born in 2017.
MADUNA
From the photographic project MADUNA was born the line of handcrafted jewelry dedicated to ceramic and concrete flooring, widespread in Sicilian private buildings and churches between the 17th and 19th centuries. At the heart of my photographic research are the Majolica.
The term Maiolica has Spanish origins, Majorca, and indicates a tile, often
hand painted. During the period of Spanish domination, Sicilian artisans perfected the production techniques and decorative designs, bringing majolica to be appreciated and requested throughout the Mediterranean.
